Diomedes Cato

b. ?Serravalle [Veneto], 1560-65; d. after 1607 or 1618

Italian composer/lutenist, active in Poland and (shortly) Sweden.

In addition to solo lute music, he composed vocal music and other instrumental music.

Wrote the following book:

Cato, Diomedes. Rytmy lacinskie uczynione od krolewica polskiego Kazimierza Przydane sa hymny z Godzinek Wszystkie te rytmy z notami i tabulatura na lutnia (Kraków: B Skalski 1606) [no tablature survives]


Solo lute works appear in CH-Bu, PL-Kj, D-LEm, D-W, GB-Cfm, GB-Lbl, CZ-Pnm, D-Hs, GB-HAdolmetsch, I-Gu, PL-LZu.
